Marine Fonteyne
I’m a photo-based artist. Photography is the air that I breathe, my camera the most vital extension of my body. I work through the strokes of my camera to paint light, building images that express my deepest desires – to create scenes that evoke a sense of harmony, wonderment, and wellbeing. I work in and around the universe of water, nature & female memories that aims to transport the viewer to new places and explore new feelings.
Recently I felt the need to move beyond my bidimensional work. I started to build new tactile stories using embroidering over photography, and experimenting with fiber sculptures, textile installation, and printing meaningful images on intricate fabrics to express in a more compelling way my visual narratives.
My work explores an array of experimental methods, such as: ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) technique, underwater imagery, abstracts, in-camera double-exposures and painting light. Working with state of the art professional equipment, by shooting in very large raw format. I employ precise post-production techniques, including Photoshop, Lightroom and cutting-edge software. I include archival fine art printing processes, to create original images that are at once powerful and elegant.
I work in small editions, printing a maximum of ten prints and two artist proofs of each image, in sizes ranging from intimate to monumental. Constantly searching for different modalities and visual vocabulary, I would like to develop my photography to include collage, embroidery, encaustic art, drone imagery, as well as kinetic sculptural installations.
