Nelson Alvarez was born on September,1954 photographer in Havana, Cuba, where he grew up and studied architecture, successfully graduated in 1979 from the Institute Technical Superior of Havana (CUJAE), School of Architecture. In 1992, through his work as an architect and professor at the Technical Superior School of Havana he got the opportunity to spend several years abroad at the University of Venice, (IUAV) for a MD of Urban and Regional Planning.
Right from his early years, Alvarez developed his passion for both Photography and Graphic Design without forgetting his earned skills for freehand drawings and when he moved to Venice brought together these areas of expertise as a self-taught photographer working on various projects with architects and as a photographer. Since 2004 when he moved to Miami, Florida, he has been working as an architect, professor and photographer, other than tutoring Italian and Spanish languages.
Almost 30 years later, Alvarez applies the motif principle of “Less is More” to any shot, defined by few elements an in presence of colors a few of them, accurate composition, and a deep studio of the lights, aside his passion for Jeanloup Sieff, Mario Giacomelli, as well Caravaggio, Vermeer and why not Ennio Morricone.
Urban Environment and Architecture, Dance, Theater, Portrait, Artistic Nudes and Body Studios cover most of his areas of interest. Alvarez’s images demonstrate how even in dim light or dramatic shadows a photograph’s underlying message might be conveyed.
