Artist Statement

Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid with a specialty in Design, she completed her studies at the Open University of Catalonia in Digital Art and Culture Innovation and in various subsequent courses: University of the Arts London Central Saint Martins and the International Center for photography and EFTI cinema in Madrid.

Recently published by Create! Magazine and Semifinalist in the ARTBOX contest. PROJECT New York 1.0 (By ARTBOX.GALLERY Switzerland), has more selections in awards such as "City of Palencia of Artistic Creation (Spain) or by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Our Lady of Rosario (A Coruña, Spain)". He has participated in numerous international fairs, such as Paris, Madrid, Hamburg, Istanbul and Stockholm among others. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries from London, Mexico, EEUU, Spain, Alaska, Ecuador, Brazil, and Buenos Aires or Quebec.

Laura Romero is a multidisciplinary artist who comes from painting and who throughout her career began to develop in other fields such as photography, installation, ceramic sculpture and engraving. It should be noted that in his last years he has experimented with the photographic image on supports such as cement, stone or brick.

Eight years ago he moved to Mexico and has been working closely with the city, as a self-portrait , from the concepts of migration and living. The artist questions the territory in which she lives and builds a new identity with a view to the unknown and the new, to find herself in what was in front. Inhabiting is made up of accumulated experiences and sensations. According to Laura, there is no better way to perceive the transformation of a space and, with it, our perception of it, than by remembering the moments lived, the sensory perceptions, the interaction and the relationship with that space.

In her work, the artist wants to provoke a second look, a reflection on everything that at first glance passes us by without our realizing it.

Artworks

Intervals

I have been working with the city for several years. Questioning the territory in which I live and building a new identity, my identity.

This cities with which I work represent the mirror as an image of the reflection on one´s own identity. This duality between Narciso and the Vampire of which Fontcubert speaks about in his book “The Kiss of Judas: photography and truth” “someone pursues the reflection of the one he lacks”. We are in a constant paradox searching for ourselves. The horizon of the utopia is the one being. An none horizon. We are intervals. The counterpoint between what we think we are and what we should be. There is no up or down. Symmetry breaks, colors invade one and other. In these collages there is an attempt to reframe and recompose our thousand facades.
