M L Gibson works from an open studio on the South West coast of England, undertaking private commissions and producing original work. The studio is also a gallery housing an ever evolving self curated solo show, with a perpetually changing exhibition of Gibson’s work.

M L Gibson has painted members of the Royal Family, Military Dignitaries and worked as Corps Artist and Portraitist for the Royal Marines.

Notable commissions include significant military works depicting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the capacity of Corps Artist working for the British Army and Royal Marines, winning an award for outstanding contribution, and having work unveiled by HRH Prince William, and presented to Her Majesty the Queen.

As a portraitist, Gibson has painted HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh in his capacity as Captain General of the Royal Marines, among other high ranking military dignitaries such as General Sir Gordon Messenger KCB DSO& Bar, OBE, ADC. Other important military commissions include works for the British and Canadian Special Forces.

Gibsons work hangs in Whitehall, Faslane, and every RM commando officers mess in the UK.

M L Gibson’s original work is concerned with verisimilitude, detail and design, form and function, response and reflection; the alchemy of creating shine from base elements, the transmutation of matter, the value of colour and the power of the sublime on the mortal psyche. Group shows include BP Portrait Award finalist,

National Portrait Gallery, London; Southampton City Art Gallery and The National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh.
