WHY I SHOOT
I have been taking photos for a long time, practically my whole life. When it came to actually showing my work, I was paralyzed with anxiety. I used Miami Art Week as a test application, secretly hoping to be rejected. And so now we are here and it’s the first time any of my work will be shown publicly in my home city.
Now that we have that out of the way, here’s a little about my work. The heart of my film and photography is a fascination with extraordinary human beings - their resilience, vulnerability, and capacity for transformation.
As a photographer who has been captivated by the art form since childhood, I find comfort in the world of varied content that unfolds before me. My images are a reflection of the intriguing sights that catch my eye while navigating the streets, a visual diary of moments that transpire in unexpected places.
People hold a special fascination for me, particularly those who let their true selves shine through like performers, drag queens, and artists. Their unabashed expression of identity serves as a mirror, reflecting my own journey of self-discovery. Breaking free from the constraints of a strict upbringing, I draw inspiration and courage from these extraordinary individuals who dare to live fiercely authentic lives.
